Beschreibung

Unger.[4] V roce 1939 byl hřbitov před požárem jihlavské synagogy zničen – výtržníci povalili většinu náhrobků a vypálili obřadní síň.[5] V letech 1968–1969 došlo k úpravě a zkrácení hřbitova a ke stavbě malé obřadní síně. V dalších letech došlo k postavení a očištění pomníků. V roce 1997 tu byl odhalen pomník obětem holokaustu.[6] Mezi zde pohřbené patří i rodiče a sourozenci hudebního skladatele Gustava Mahlera. The Jewish cemetery in Jihlava is located in the south of the town in the street U Cviciste, north of the central Jihlava cemetery in Žižkova Street. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. [1] On the area of 8879 m2, over 1100 modern tombstones have survived to date. The founding of a Jewish cemetery in the western suburb of Jihlava in U Cvičiště occurred either in 1867, [3] or in 1869. [2] The cost of land acquisition was 7,000 gold. [3] In 1903, the simple morgue building at the entrance was converted into a large ceremonial hall in the Neo-Romanesque style according to the Wilhelm Stiassny building project. In 1904, the building was completed, including two wings of the cemetery wall, which closed the entire cemetery from the east side. On Dec. 8, 1904, the Hall of the Jihlava rabbi dr. Unger. [4] n 1939, the cemetery was destroyed before the fire in the Jihlava synagogue - the thugs poured most of the tombstones and burned the ceremonial hall. In 1968-1969, the cemetery was modified and shortened and a small ceremonial hall was built. In 1992 and 1993, the entrance was fitted with a metal entrance gate with Jewish symbolism. A metal memorial plaque was placed in the front. In the following years, monuments were built and cleaned. A memorial to Holocaust victims was unveiled in 1997. [6] Among the buried here are the parents and siblings of the musical composer Gustav Mahler.
