In 1911 Congregation Adath Israel recognized the necessity for a Jewish cemetery and undertook to acquire land on 24 June 1911 from Henry Wertheimer and establish the Adath Israel Cemetery. The cemetery building committee consisted of: M. Ditch, president; M. Rosenstock, vice president; Jacob H. Jacobson, secretary; Henry Wertheimer, treasurer; L. Goldman, Meyer Maltz, Joseph (Joe) Sachs, M. Abramson, Jacob Leon, Hyman Evans, directors. The oldest gravemarker found is for Avram “Abe” Stern (b.ca. 1879-d. 13 Feb 1914). There is a small gravehouse for Rabbi Jacob Geller (1863-1930) and his wife, Sara Wittes Geller (1861-1950). On 25 Oct 1905, Congregation Adath Israel was chartered by the Texas Secretary of State as a domestic non-profit corporation. The incorporators were: B. J. Goldman, Henry Wertheimer, L. Greenberg, Simon Greenberg, Sol Gordon, Jacob N. Lewis and Jacob H. Jacobson. In the mid-1960s three small congregations, Adath Emeth, Beth Jacob and Adath Israel merged to form the United Orthodox Synagogue (UOS), which was incorporated on 17 Nov 1965 by the Texas Secretary of State as a domestic non-profit corporation. The UOS then assumed responsibility for the Adath Emeth Cemetery and Adath Israel Cemetery. In 1978, Congregation Adath Israel signed over all ownership of the cemetery to the United Orthodox Synagogues.
