Each monolith represents one of the crosses on Mt. Calvary. The waterfall at the base of the 50 foot cross at the entry is referred to as “The Living Water”, representing eternal life flowing through Christ. When coming in, you drive to Lake Esperanza (Lake Hope). In Lake Esperanza, we have a pair of nesting swans, Abraham and Sarah. The male swan is a cob and the female is a pen. A male muted swan can weigh as much as 28 lbs. A blow from an angry swan’s wing can actually break a man’s arm. Overlooking the lake toward the South is a beautiful mosaic tile frieze of the Resurrection. This beautiful work of art is 25 feet wide by 30 feet high. The Rachel Mourning Baby Section is situated in desert landscaping. A cenotaph next to Rachel Mourning provides a place for memorialization. There is also a large baby section known as Holy Innocents. This cemetery has both desert and turf burial sections. The new mausoleum annex interior is in the shape of a cross. The center portion of the floor is a cross made of granite. The altar sits in front of the stained glass windows. The remaining portion of the floor is carpeted. A new area called “Stations of the Cross” is currently being opened. Visitors will be able to pray the Stations as they meander down a beautiful 700 foot tree and plant lined path. The station name and number will be noted at various intervals. The end of the pathway leads the faithful to a beautiful bronze statue titled “The Risen Christ”. This work of art was cast in Italy, stands 12 feet tall and is a dramatic conclusion to this interactive feature.
