It was originally believed that the Watervliet Arsenal Post Cemetery was established sometime between 1910 and 1918; however, visitors to the small and quaint cemetery will observed that many of the interments happened long before that. The size of the cemetery has definitely contributed to much not being known about it. As the arsenal grounds upon which the cemetery currently resides began to grow and develop, the small cemetery was forgotten about. It was not properly cared for, nor do many records still exist. it wasn't until much later that the time and effort was made to ensure the cemetery received the regular care it deserved. The cemetery currently sits in a beautiful corner of the arsenal grounds with few visitors each year who study the simple nature and history of the cemetery.
